Instant Runoff Voting (IRV).
Instant Runoff Voting is sometimes called Altervative Vote (AV)
or Ranked Choice Voting.
The basic rule is that after a count of the votes, the candidate with the lowest number of votes is dropped from the ballot (removed), and then the votes that had counted for the dropped candidate are redistributed to the remaining candidates based on the next preference indicated on each ballot. Some votes make not indicate any further preference. These ballots are declared "exhausted" and no longer count in the determination of majority. This count and drop process repeats until a candidate acquires a majority of the votes (not exhausted). Frequently an IRV result gives the voters a more popular result compared to FPTP.
