Democracy on a Slate.Add last chance recounts to IRV and good compromises will not lose by accident. In parties, leadership hopefuls have been known to get out of the way before the next round of voting starts. In a small enough room, the voters can figure it out before it's too late. But in a big district or a province, IRV can lose the best choice. And that's unfair to most of us. How easy is it? Run a normal IRV count to it's two candidate finish, identifying the IRV-Runner-Up and the IRV-Winner. Then give the IRV-Runner-Up a choice to get out of the way if it means finding a more popular choice. And if that happens, it's only fair that the IRV-Winner, now losing, would have a similar choice to get out of the way if it means electing an even more popular choice.
